Color with Class

On the Spring 2012 Runways we saw a huge trend with color blocking, bright jewel tones, and ensembles of the natural fall hues mixed with bold animal print accents.

Interpret the trend in your own way:

Customize - Choose a color that looks great on YOU. Take an honest friend shopping with you and try to find about three colors to incorporate into your basic (black, white, khaki, brown, or gray) wardrobe. Again, only focusing on colors that make you look and, of course, feel radiant!

Placement - To ease into wearing color, wear one of the colors by itself with another basic color. Try wearing color away from your face, for example wear a vibrant skirt or pair of pants, or slip on some stellar shoes with a basic colored outfit. As you get more used to wearing color, wear a bright cardigan with a muted outfit, or some flashy colored jewels to accessorize an understated outfit. Then when you are fearless of color, put on a jewel-toned blouse or dress for a holiday party. Or try this look, black lace with a muted jewel tone surfacing. Love this!

Don't forget the key to wearing color is to customize it so the color compliments YOU. That's the great comfort of color - there are so many to choose from, I'm certain you'll meet your accent!

Below are visuals to assist you with wearing color and still achieving a look that tells your boss you are a professional and want to be conservatively-respected and RESPECTFUL to your company.

For the trendy dresser: make the color your conservative piece of clothing and find ecentric pieces all in the same solid color for the rest of your look.

Classy-edge!

Respectfully-sassy!

OR wear one basic color and add a peep of color. Example: all black paired with jewel tone accessories.

Other ideas: Switch your skirt to the color piece or maybe your blouse if it compliments your complexion. Experiment with any single piece of your ensemble - your shoes, handbag, scarf, jacket, etc.

Color DON'Ts:

PLEASE if you want to be viewed as a civilized-professional. Express your talent and most extreme art on a canvas... PLEASE.

Red Carpet Glamour Cosmetics 2011 Show

My first time at the Scottsdale Cosmetics Trend Show was a blast! Present were over 19 Beauty, Fragrance experts to help customize your beauty for Fall. Hearing from select representatives from our favorite Nordstrom cosmetic partners was truly enlightening and intriguing to try new cosmetics to achieve a refreshing appearance. What woman doesn't act a little more perky after she tries and loves a new cosmetic?! Ah yes, the power of cosmetics... fabulous friendly attitude, foxy stare, followed by a gorgeous smile - It all starts with a boost in confidence within your own skin.

Taking care of your skin is key no matter what your age is. A fresh, clean, dewy complexion brightens your face and happiness is contagious - even when you look in the mirror you can't help but smile.

Among some of the new products I tried I loved:

Scrape away dull, tired, damaged surface-skin with Philosophy in-home Oxygen Peel. (This product I was already loyal to, but needed to stop by and replenish my stock.) This peel is also great for decongesting pores, which 'clearly' - no pun - helps your skin breath freely and release unwanted toxins. Leaving a healthy care-free glow to frame your beautiful smile!
Deep breathing is another fantastic addition to promote better oxygen flow to help glam your skin. Just five minutes a day will give your skin more oxygen; it needs this to more efficiently carry good oxygen and nutrients to your cells, making them happy and releasing the waste 'bad' oxygen out of your body more thoroughly. (Crave more fab tips like this? Read one of my favorite books: The Mind-Beauty Connection: 9 Days to Reverse Stress Aging and Reveal More Youthful, Beautiful Skin by Amy Wechsler, M.D.)

I tried something very new to my personal beauty routine - RED LIPSTICK! I honestly have NEVER tried this look before, but since I went to the show with only a smidge of tinted moisturizer on, a dusting of blush and one quick sweep of mascara on my upper lids, I decided to give it a try. With a muted face the 'red glam' made for a fab burst of color that brightened my face and drew attraction to my now (surprisingly) poutier lips. M.A.C. Cosmetics is the leader in red lipstick right now, they specialize in helping you find a custom shade of red. There I had a nice conversation with Kimberly a Regional Representative for M.A.C. Cosmetics. She pinpointed my colors: 'Cherry' for the lip pencil. (Wearing a bright red lip you MUST line and fill your lips with a matching shade FIRST to prevent smear and straying mess of red also causing it to last for hours.) Then over Cherry, a creamy lipstick was applied in 'Brave Red' - how... fitting!

The best advice for wearing red lipstick: Customize the color of red for your lips the same way you would customize colors in your wardrobe. Find a shade that is best for YOU and make it a statement.

Then I scurried to my appointment with Ali at Smashbox. After creating a blank canvas on my face, she then prepped my 'normal to dry' skin with 'Photo Finish' Hydrating Foundation Primer. Then used an HD foundation all over the skin and added some highlighter around the eyes where dark circles or shadows may appear and on the bridge of the nose and just above the center of my lip where the little divot settles. After that some eyelid primer to conceal and even the skin, a dust of HALO Light Powder, enhanced my brows ( I have dark eyebrows but never tested what an exaggerated brow would add to my look.), she created a dramatic eye with new eyeshadow trio 'Mega Pixel'. A touch of 'Sun Tan' Matte Bronze Lights and Blush Rush 'Chiffon', we decided to of course follow through with a lighter lip using Limitless Longwear Lip Gloss and finished it all off with my NOW NEW FAVORITE MASCARA (look for this in my November Blog of top ten faves for the month).

It was fun - Thank you Ali!

A great look for Spring 2012!

One of my many favorite-favorites from this line!

The leather fabric of this skirt was so chic!

The color scheme and mixed textures were superb. I wish you could have seen this fabric detail!

Again, leather fabric detail in shorts this time and sheer top... fabulous for Phoenix Fall right now!

So cute - this feather-fluff fabric has an ostrich appearance. Its a great new texture for fall!

Feathers on the shoulders - if I had to choose between shoulder pads or feathers...
I personally would wear feathers! I'm feminine, frills and ruffles are our privilege!

Haute, I would love to wear this to the FIDM Alum Christmas Party this year! It's in the running!

Designer herself (and gorgeous) Alana Hale
Fun fact: Alana is one of our fellow alums - a FIDM grad.

Designer Runway Show Six: Black Russian Label
